View current property listings.#81 Laughing Whitefish PointThis lake level building site has a flat rock "painted" sandstone beach, a surface not unlike the bottom of a swimming pool, which makes for great swimming. Note the interesting round sandstone feature right at the waterline in the first photograph. It is attached to and is part of the sandstone on the easterly border of the property. The winter drift ice has pushed boulders just above the water line and onto the shore, but a path for barefoot swimmers can be cleared through those as well. Sandstone lies beneath. With the crystal clear water, radiant energy from the high summer sun quickly warms the underlying sandstone and the water. (Yes, it looks a little cold today, maybe because of the snow on the rocks! These photos were taken January 3rd, 2004.) Further out, kayakers will find huge boulders and blocks of sandstone that are visible 30 feet below (or more, on particularly clear and calm days).AuTrain Island lies due east, and Grand Island extends across the horizon to the northeast. This parcel is close to the center of Laughing Whitefish Point. It has 250.77' of Lake Superior frontage and 10.01 acres of land. Most of the tree cover near the building site is hard (sugar) and soft (red) maple, with a few hemlocks. Further back the maples mix with American Beech trees. ![]() The largest home in the development was recently constructed on multiple adjoining parcels to the east. The parcel to the west has a building pad and views have been carefully cleared to the lake, but construction has not yet started on a home. Six building parcels share the gravel entry road off Shore Drive, the main road serving Laughing Whitefish Point.
